Kovalam / Vizhinjam Port

This port was declared as a minor port in 1977. But regular cargo operations started only during 1994-95. The port has two wharves measuring 80 and 87 metres length and 4.5 and 6 metres of depth alongside respectively. This port can handle vessels up to 5000 GT and has the potential to handle more cargo. There are three godowns measuring a total of 253 metre square area in Leaward Wharf and 500 Sq Meter Transit Shed at Seaward Wharf 5T Hydra-825 Mobile Crane is available. Nevertheless this port regularly handles foreign shipments to Maldives at an average rate of 10000 tons per year. Vizhinjam port owing to its proximity to the international tourism destination at Kovalam, is an itinerary of major cruise lines. Vizhinjam Port also offers crew change facilities since 2020.
