Cheruvathoor-Neeleswarram port is situated at the estuary of kavvai backwaters. It is also in the confluence of Kariyamkode river, Kavvai river and the Neeleswarem river. This port was a hub for coastal trading during the 18th centuary and the early nineteenth century. The nearest towns are Neeleswarem and Chervathoor in Kasaragod districts. The harbour basin is a large body of water. It is connected to the inland water way from Kottappuram in Neeleswarem to Azhikkal at Kannur via sultan canal. The port has no berthing facility at present. The port is connected to the Ezhimala Naval Academy by the Kavvai Backwaters. The kavvai backwater extents about 35 kilometres from Ramanthali to Kottappuram.
