Azhikkal Port has been recognized by International Port for the Security of Ship and Port (ISPS).  International ships can operate only after obtaining this certificate from the Union Ministry of Shipping.  Ahead of the realization of the Vizhinjam International Port, securing ISPS accreditation for non-major ports in Kerala was one of the main objectives of the Ports Department and the Kerala Maritime Board.  This goal has been completed today.
