Beypore port has recorded a historic achievement by clearing ISPS certification

Beypore port becomes an international port where foreign ships can come directly. International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) certification has been made available for Beypore Port for berthing of foreign ships and obtaining immigration clearance. With the availability of the ISPS code, the port rose to international standards and was certified for five years. Earlier, the security arrangements at the port had been expanded as per the directive of MMD to obtain ISPS certification. A perimeter wall including a barbed wire fence was also prepared around the port boundary, the existing two meter perimeter wall was raised to 2.4 meters and a barbed wire fence was placed on top of it. X-ray scanning system and metal detector have been installed at the port gate. An automatic radar system has also been set up to detect ships and small vessels approaching the port. The main entrance and passenger gate of the port were rebuilt along with a modern communication system at the wharf etc. In Mercantile, foreign ships are allowed to call only at ports covered by the ISPS code, and with the acquisition of the code, foreign cargo-passenger ships can come directly to Beypore, and Beypore became the main port in Malabar to receive an international unique identity number. Dredging work is going on for big ships to reach Beypore shore.
