The aim of the State Ports Department is to ensure infrastructure development in the small ports of Kerala and modernize them so that they can serve foreign ships as well. For this, the Maritime Board is implementing multifaceted development projects. Prior to the realization of the Vizhinjam International Port, it was important that the four leading non-major ports in Kerala seek International Ship & Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) approval from the Union Ministry of Shipping. International ships can call at the port only if the ISPS code is available. This approval has been given to Vizhinjam, Kollam, Beypore and Azhikkal ports. State level declaration of ISPS approval is being held on Monday 4th September 2023 at 3:30 PM at Beypore port yard.
