Overview
Kasaragod port is a seaside minor port located at the mouth of Chandragiri River with the Arabian Sea in Kasaragod District of Kerala. As per the documents available, Kasaragod Port started its operation in 1809s and the port developed as a commercial port in 1920s. In 1933s due to heavy monsoon the river mouth shifted to south of Chandragiri bridge. One of the oldest ports in the coast of north Malabar region of Kerala. It was a leading trading centre for tiles & wooden products. Cargo Operation lasted till 1984.
At present, there is a small fishing harbor (namely Kasaba Fishing harbour) inside the Kasaragod Port. There exists potential for connecting Manjeswaram, Shiriya,Mogral,Chandragiri,Bekal Rivers,Karyankode rivers in Kasargod District as part of development of inland state waterways
Infrastructure
Kasaragod Port is situated in Kasaragod ,Thalankara & Kizhur/Chaliyangode Villages in Kasaragod District. Kasaragod Port has no Wharf facility, and shipping channel in Chandragiri River is to be dredged and deepened to required draft properly for smooth and safe navigation.
